Here is a Q& A with our founder of Instafamed Paulina (@sheispaulina):
Hi Paulina, how long did it take you to get almost a million Instagram followers?
I joined Instagram two years ago. When I first joined I had no idea what Instagram was really about and didn’t post often. After a year I really started to be active on Instagram and posted more frequently. At this point more followers started to engage with me and it was sort of a “domino effect” from there.
With more eyeballs on my Instagram, I started putting more attention into what sort of photos worked and didn’t. With this said, I basically gauged which posts got the most likes, comments and interactions and posted accordingly. For one, I noticed that selfies did the best since your Instagram audiences can better relate to them in comparison to professionally shot images that are often altered with post production to make you look flawless. I noticed that people on Instagram liked to see the real you, doing real things. This is why I believe so many “behind the scenes” images work so well for not only personal accounts but for business accounts.
What helped grown your Instagram?
The four things I noticed that really helped grown my Instagram were:
1) quality of pictures;
4) interacting back;
I believe that using hashtags is vital on Instagram. You can use up to 30 hashtags per post so I always utilize that number to the max. Adding hashtags onto Instagram is another way tool to use to help followers find your profile. I don’t use all the hashtags in my original caption, I think this looks “too spammy” and disengages followers. What I do is post my hashtags in a future comment as soon as I publish a photo or video. It is important to switch up your hashtags to reach new followers because if you are always using the same ones they start to get stale after a few posts, especially if your posts are always featured within that hashtags top posts on Instagram. I use the app TagsTags4Likes to keep track of my hashtags in the custom area so I don’t forget what tags I used on my last post and helps me to stay organized.
Do you always use a filter?
It really depends on the photo. Someone I use a filter, sometimes the photo looks better without one. What I most commonly do is add a filter but adjust the amount of the filter to my liking. Many people still don’t utilize this feature because they are unaware of how to do it. To adjust the filer from 100% to your preference, you have to click on the filter twice for the option to pop up.
Is it important is it to be on other social media platforms?
I believe it is important, but hard to do at the same time! Lots of people who have a strong following on Instagram already had a large presence on other social channels like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Snapchat, etc.
What would you recommend to get more Instagram followers?
I believe that everyone’s Instagram depends on the person behind it. Instagram is full of people from all over the world, from different cultures, with different personalities and preferences, different styles, you name it.
What I would recommend is post pictures that people can relate to. The more followers can relate to you and your posts, the more traction you will gain. Be authentic and be yourself!
